Time and patience (but not really because it was super fast) Step 1, take off the tailgate cover (held by T-30 torx screws.) After screws are removed lift up on the top part of the tailgate to pull it out of the centering tab. WebOct 29, 2016 · Installing the locking mechanism was straightforward: remove the tailgate top cap (few screws and a nudge to the right - dont lose or break too many of the white clips), unscrew the big central mechanism and install the actuator and mounting plate. I had to bend the mounting plate a bit to get everything to line up nicely, but YMMV.

The actuator installs on the opposite side as the Pop n Lock. The actuating rod prevents the tailgate handle from being extended when you try to open the tailgate (when locked).
