Must be able to perform venipunctures as well as capillary punctures and heel sticks. WebbFor patients new to the blood bank, a specimen located in the lab from a prior phlebotomy can substitute as a second sample so long as it is collected in an appropriate preservative (tubes used for complete blood counts are commonly obtained) and is appropriately labelled (date/time of draw and phlebotomist initials are on the tube).
